Easy Homemade Flour Tortillas.
Checking out the ingredients list on the side of store bought tortillas
can be a confusing tongue twister. What's with all the additives? When
all you really need to get started in your kitchen is 4 ingredients,
and its super quick too, you could whip them up while your taco meat is
cooking. Easy to throw together for lunches. And you know exactly
whats in them and can rest a little easier knowing what your family is
eating.
Step 1 ingredients
- 3 cups flour ( I normally do half white and half whole wheat Organic Flour)
-1/3 cup oil ( you can use whatever you like for oil, I usually use half Hemp oil and half Olive oil but use whatever you have)
-1 cup water (warm water)
-1/2 teaspoon of Real Salt
Step 2
- Combine all the above ingredients in a bowl and mix until a big ball of dough forms, Yup its just that easy. Separate the ball into peices, some tortilla recipes say 1 to 2 inch pieces, I usually just divide it into as many pieces as I like, cause I'm not picky and I find the thicker they are the nicer they turn out. But with this recipe you may get about 8 tortillas.
Step 3
-Start heating a large flat pan at medium heat.
- Flour a surface and rolling pin, squish each dough ball down and start rolling away at it. Try and get them round, but don't worry if they are not very round looking, the more rustic the better. Roll it to your desired size.
Step 4
-Lightly oil the pan not enough to fry something, you just don't want your dough to stick to the bottom.
- Toss your first tortilla on the pan and then start rolling out the second one. Keep a watchful eye on your pan at all times you don't want to over cook the tortilla otherwise it get a bit to crunchy to roll when its cooked. Flip the tortilla as you go to cook both sides.
Step 5
-When its looking done transfer your cooked tortilla to a plate and cover with a clean tea towel to keep them nice and warm till dinner.
Voila , Super EASY!
This recipe is so nice and quick. I've even thrown them together quickly to make quick Tortilla pizza lunches. Also we are a family of 3 (so far) my son is 2 years old.
